Jewelry design, at least now a days encompasses several mediums and skill sets.  Tools are essential but you do not always have to get the most expensive tools.  A good wire cutter can cost $50 to $70.00 dollars but if you are new to designing and you are not selling your finished creations, a cheap pair of cutters from China or Pakistan will serve you well for the first few months.  However there is never an alternative for a good tumbler.  Prepare to pay $150.00 for a quality machine.
