Fire Goddess lampwork Glass Beads are some of the most durable your can invest in! All Fire Goddess beads are designed with the latest technology and techniques known to create and harden the beads. First in this process is the selection of glass rods which are known in the industry to afford a quality, durable and compatiable starting point. Glass must be used that can be blended, melted and bonded together. This characteristic is know as the coefficiency of exchange. Susan then will use highly developed techniques of sculpting and flame work, call, flashing and flame polishing to keep the bead in progress in a molten state. After the bead is created it is still very hot and actually is considered to be in a near liquid state. The bead is then placed into a specially designed computer-control oven for a cool down period which is also an important part of the hardening process lasting approximately 12 hours. This process is called annealing.
The end result is a beautifully designed bead with no air or gasses trapped inside the bead and is considered by some in the industry to be as hard as a bowling ball. Susan has made thousands and thousands of beads of the past eleven years and less that 15 beads have been broken or chipped from less than normal wear and tear.
