G. How do I properly open and close my Jewelry Links?
To Properly open and close your heavy gauge Fire Goddess Links first make sure you are using two pair of the chain nose pliers. It is also recommended that your treat the tips of your wire working pliers with the rubber coating.
Chain nose are identified by the tapering flat surface tips with no ridges on the inside of the bill surface.
To properly open the link place one pair of pliers on the right side of the link and place the other pair of pliers on the left side of the link with the opening at the top. (See diagram below)
Now gently push the sides of the link away from each other. Your right hand pushes the link forward and your left hand pulls the link towards your body at the same time. Open only enough to allow for the attaching link or embellishment to fit-No more!
To Close the link position your pliers on the sides of the link and gently pull the jump ring together with a gentle rocking action back and forth just past each other until the ends meet and create a slight click. That is evidence that they are as close as possible with as small a space or no space showing at the opening. You should inspect your link jewelry before each use to insure that none of the links have been stretched open from wear and tear and also check for cleaning. If you see any space between the tips of the wire links get out your chain nose pliers and rock the link closed again per the instructions above. While nothing lasts for ever, with just a little maintenance the heavy gauge hardened link jewelry are designed to last many years.
